Race Reports

Albert:

The only way I can describe today is by being very disappointed.

I think from my own personal ownership perspective it is the most disappointed I have been with the performance of a horse in a race after such a good build up.

She had been working the track down and pushing open class horses in her track gallops. Her trial was great and the first horse home in that trial has won and run second 2nd since. The third horse has run 3rd twice since the trials.

However today she fell out of the barrier and never got warm. I am disappointed for all of her owners. I don't think she really tried today and seems to be a filly that either tries hard or not at all.
She is running out of chances though and needs to do something in her next few starts and use the ability that she has or it will all be over for her.

She is fit and she will step up to 1600m next start, probably in two weeks. As I say she will need to do something in her next two to three starts to justify our faith in her or we will pull the pin.

I still have hope for her because of the times she can run in training and the ability she has shown when she wants to use it. I will be in touch as soon as I know where we are heading next start.

Regards
Albert

Mike (view from the box):

Having read the bullish reports of Twiggy's great trial (over 1000m) and her impressive work at home, the booking of Noel Harris and the shortish win & place prices on the TAB (although we were not going to waste any additional money on betting), we sat down to watch her putting her best hoof forward and showing us the money.

She looked well going down and was led into the stalls early, she showed none of the theatricals that we had all experienced during her first season. She certainly looked more relaxed... maybe she had already written the script!

She left the stalls a little slowly, although she was not that far away when the leader broke, within 300m the field were spread over the best part of 100m. As they turned into the straight Noel gave her one smack then stood up and her race was well and truly over. Although even if she had quickened the best we could have expected would have been 10th.

The fact that we are still holding on to the memories of a fourth placing at Wanganui on her second start way back in October 2004 is a little worrying, I would love to see her finish in the frame as that would at least bring a little joy to the other members of the syndicate who must be going through the same concerns as us. The reality may be that our day in the sun with her may not come...we should now be considering our options, as I'm sure with her breeding the only real option would be to sell her on as a potential broodmare.

Summary: Slow never in the race.
