Race SixOLD BANK TAVERN STAYERS MAIDEN (2100m)
LIBERTON LAD was a late scratching on veterinary advice. This, being the second time recently that the horse was scratched at the start, the Veterinary Surgeon recommended the horses lameness be resolved prior to the horse returning to racing (vet’s report filed). DARLING HARBOUR (L Robinson) and GOTTA BE QUICK (T Moseley) collided when the start was made and were both a little slow to begin.

Race Reports

Albert:

After an encouraging run at Waimate, yesterday was a little disappointing.

Twiggy actually jumped better than we wanted her to and was wide going out of the straight. She settled back in the field and started to improve at the 600 and from where I was sitting, it looked like Jamie Bullard had a decent handful of her approaching the turn.

Into the straight she just battled passed a few horses to be beaten about 8 lengths. Jamie said she was just switching on and off the whole time during the race and while she has started to develop physically and is starting to look like a stayer she is still immature mentally.

While this campaign hasn't hit the high notes, she has gone a couple of encouraging races and has obviously improved from her first time in. Heather feels there is a good deal of improvement in her as she matures and her dam didn't win until she was four years of age, which is a family trait.

Heather would like to give her a spell and have another campaign with her as believes she has the ability to make it over ground with a little more patience. We have solved her barrier problems, she is now mature enough to get over ground and the further she goes the better she will get. If we spell her now while the tracks are a bog, we can bring her back for one more campaign where she will have to win for us to prove she can do it.

Her trackwork has stepped up a gear this time and if her body and mind continue to move ahead, it could be a good campaign next time.

We will get there.
