Maiden (Mdn)

For horses which have not won a flat race

Intermediate Grade

These races are run at set weights for horses that have not won more than one flat race, disregarding any win in a Graduation Open or Graduation Improvers race prior to 1st August 1997.

Drop Back Provision in Intermediate Grade Races

Also eligible are horses that have won not more than two flat races, disregarding any win in a Graduation Open or Graduation Improvers race prior to 1st August 1997 provided they have not won a flat race within the last 12 months, or in their last 10 race day starts.

Progressive Grade

These races are run at set weights or on a handicap basis for horses that have not won more than four flat races, disregarding any win in a Graduation Open or Graduation Improvers race prior to 1st August 1997.

Drop Back Provision in Progressive Grade Races

Also eligible are horses that have won not more than four flat races, disregarding any win in a Graduation Open or Graduation Improvers race prior to 1st August 1997 provided they have not won a flat race within the last 12 months, or in their last 10 race day starts.

Premier 0

For horses which have not won a race at a premier meeting, or group or listed race.

Premier 1

For horses which have won no more than one race at a premier meeting, or group or listed race.

Premier 2

For horses which have won no more than two races at a premier meeting, or group or listed race.

Premier Quality Race (PQ)

A race run on a premier race day as from 1st August 1997 which has a minimum stake of $20,000.

These races are for horses who have won not more than four races. No account shall be taken of wins in Graduation Improvers or Graduation Open or Graduation Jumpers Flat events, except if that race was the horse's maiden win.

Open Handicap Race

For all horses not less than Three Years Old.

Restricted Open Handicap Race

For all horses not less than Three Years Old, minimum weight 54kg.

Note: A win at a premier meeting where the stake for the race is $12,000 or under will not be counted when determining whether a horse is eligible for P0,P1 or P2 races.
